Statement on George Floyd
“It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people and not be in favor of justice for all people." -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow Americans in grieving for the loss of George Floyd and for the toll of discrimination experienced by the African-American community. There is no place for racism in our country.
We share the belief, as President George W. Bush outlined this week, that “lasting peace in our communities requires truly equal justice. The rule of law ultimately depends on the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system. And achieving justice for all is the duty of all.”
We commend the many Americans who are protesting peacefully and share their desire for a better future. Together, let us renew our commitment to America’s founding promise and to the cause of equal rights, justice, and opportunity.
